The Graham F. Smith Peace Foundation was founded in 1989 as a lasting legacy to its namesake. Graham F. Smith. Graham believed that people who are taught to think, challenge and are encouraged to expand their imagination, can create a better world. The purpose of the Foundation is the promotion of peace through all art forms that relate to human rights, social justice and environmental sustainability.

“Graham’s dedication to the egalitarian principles of socialism, democracy, peace, international understanding and the dignity of labour was the inspiration for the Peace Foundation that bears his name,” said Leonie Ebert, founding member of the Graham F Smith Peace Foundation. “We believe the Human Rights Arts & Film Festival embodies everything he stood for and has made a major contribution to peace in Australia, through the arts.”

“We are honoured to be an award recipient of the Graham Smith Peace Foundation Award,” said Aleta Moriarty, HRAFF CEO. “We are driven to create a better, more peaceful world. We believe the arts, film and literature can help people connect with issues in a way nothing else can. And this is the first step in creating enduring change, changing people’s hearts and minds.”
